We started May 14 on Dunlop Lake, then went north for two lakes, then came back around though small lakes to the south side of Dunlop Lake, then home.
On the first day it took us around 4 hours paddling slow to get to the first portage. We setup camp and did some sightseeing and fishing. Day 2 we did the portage, canoed the next lake, then did the short tough Eagle Pass portage, then found a campsite on the next lake. We had good weather until we got to this campsite, then a light cold drizzle set in for 2 days. This campsite was quite nice were we could hike along a small river. We also caught 2 fish. At this campsite your webmaster cut his hand with a hatchet. The group decided to rest for a day to see whether we should return home or go on. We decided to go on but it was a little tough doing everything with one and a half hands. The other canoeist did a good job helping with the fine jobs that I could not do. We did another portage and camped on a gorgeous island with a nice sunset. It was very hard to leave this Island, I could have stayed a week. We then had a tough day with 3 scenic portages though small lakes. On the last lake we stayed on a nice large campsite with lots of pine trees. The next day we did a 1.5 km portage that took us over 3 hours to do. Everyone was glad that they brought their bug nets. We stayed on a large point campsite on Dunlop Lake and enjoyed the sun. The last day was our worst day with rain, fog and a headwind. This was fun because we knew we would soon be out of this mess and in a warm car. We stopped at the Dunlop Lake Lodge for lunch. The roast beef sandwich was great ... I recommend it.
Everyone had a good time.
PS: My cut on my hand was healed by the time we came out but will require some minor surgery.
We might stay at the resort on Dunlop Lake for the first and last days if we do this trip again.
